Finding The Right Mentor Is Critical To Your Business Success

Over my life I have had the opportunity to align myself with some of the greatest mentors in the world. These people have helped me to avoid making costly mistakes and to really be able to leapfrog the normal steps to success, so I could achieve very high levels of success in the shortest time period.
When finding a mentor you should try to find someone who challenges you. It does not make sense to find a bunch of yes men/women who are just going to tell you how great your ideas are and not push back when you are making a major mistake. The sign of a good mentor is someone who is not afraid to turn you in another direction when you are about to make a huge mistake.
Everyone is going to find a person that they really connect with and want to work with. For whatever reason, you will see this person as an expert and someone that you know will work well with you. It’s crucial that you develop a good working relationship with this person.
Much as they are going to teach you how to run your business better, he/she will also be working as a partner towards your business success. If they try to tell you that there is only one way to do things (their way), run. As much as you will want to follow this person initially, there will come a time when you will need to do things on your own. In order to do this, you need to develop a method that is your own. A good mentor should be fostering this, not squashing it.
My preference is to find mentors who are still actively practicing what they preach. So many people will hire so called experts who have never had business success or are so far removed from actually doing that they have no clue what it takes to make it in today’s business world.
Make sure that you will be working with this mentor directly or that he/she are actively involved with the program. Do not sign up for anything that will have you working with someone who went through a program to train them in the principles of this person, but hasn’t actively applied them. This isn’t an order, just a warning.
So how do you find these mentors? There are a lot of ways. The best way is to hear this person speak live or via a teleseminar. Then you will be able to hear them speak and be able to either connect or not connect with what they are saying. Another way is to buy a home study course or some other types of products that will introduce you to this person. Another (less effective) way is to subscribe to the newsletter of the person who could become your mentor. You can see the way this person thinks.
Regardless of how you find this person, to have real access to them you are going to need to hire them. The price of this will range from a few hundred to several thousand, but will be the best investment you will every make in your business future.
When you are building your business it doesn’t make sense to try and do it alone. By aligning yourself with a mentor, you will always be able to reach your desired results quicker.
