Costly Mistake #2 You Must Avoid When Attending Any Seminar
By Carl Weisman
MISTAKE #2: Not purchasing an information product before committing to a seminar.
One of the best things you can do before committing to attend an expensive seminar is to purchase a (low cost) information product from the host or host company to use in evaluating your seminar decision. Almost without exception seminar hosts also sell other products such as CDs, DVDs, books, etc. on the same topic as the seminar. You should purchase one of these “entry level” products before you commit to attending any expensive seminar. Buy a used book (if possible) for the best value.
There are two major benefits to evaluating a seminar by reviewing one of the products beforehand. First, after reviewing the product you may decide that the seminar is not for you. Perhaps the tone isn’t right, or maybe the content isn’t exactly what you thought it would be. It is much cheaper to discover that when having spent a few dollars rather than hundreds or thousands. But there is an even better reason to pre-purchase products before attending a seminar.
If you decide to attend the seminar after reviewing one of the products, you will actually be in a better position during the seminar to absorb the material. You will learn more at the seminar by already knowing the material because it won’t be the first time you are exposed to it. You will not spend the entire seminar scrambling to write down notes that are already in the product your own. And instead, you can spend your time at the seminar internalizing the deeper meaning of the material. Either way, you win by pre-purchasing a product before you commit to a seminar.
