Setting Monetary Goals in Network Marketing
By Audrey Okaneko
I remember when I first began in network marketing. My first monetary goal was to have some pocket money of my own. I had quit my job to stay home with my newborn daughter and I really missed having what I call “my money.”
I knew that in order to have $30 per week (remember this was over 20 years ago) I would need to sell about $100 worth of products each week. This was a goal I could work toward each and every week.
Once I had hit and maintained that goal on a regular basis, my husband I spoke of getting a new vehicle. His car was incredibly old. We priced out how much our payments would be and I set to work on increasing my earnings from $30 per week to about $300 per month.
Both of these goals, $30 per week and $300 per month were realistic and obtainable.
If you have never had a steady income from network marketing, my suggestion is that you start with a small achievable goal. I don’t recommend making a goal of $2000 in earnings each month when you first begin.
You’ll earn money in two different ways; from the sales of products and from building a team. Building a team takes time. Even if you sponsor five people your first month in business, it will be a while before they begin to order and find customers who want to order. Your commission on team sales is low, usually around 5%, so even with group sales of $2000 your income is $100. This is a great beginning to building a team but it’s a long way from earning the $2000 per month you had hoped to earn.
The bulk of your income in the beginning will come from product sales. To earn $2000 in a month from product sales is quite a bit. Even mores so for someone who has just begun in network marketing. This is why I suggest lower, more realistic monetary goals.
There is most definitely money to be made in network marketing. Set your goals very realistically and then build on that base each and every month. You’ll get to that $2000 per month, one month at a time.
