Network Marketing is Fine But Why is My Warm Market Really My Cold Market?

By Guy Draper

Multi Level Marketing or Network Marketing is an interesting concept; in general you sell on a product or service starting with the people you know. More often than not the product is not a well know branded product, hence the reason for trying to create a warm market. It also relies to a larger extent on you recruiting new people to also sell the product.

Well in principle that seems fine, but in what other business would you sign up, pay your money and then start selling to your family and friends. Well I have to be honest not being a good sales person the thought of approaching some of my sceptical family and friends fills me with dread and I guess like most people my warm market really turns into my cold market. There is also the side of people that is suspicious and I believe they instantly think you are coming to them because you can’t sell it elsewhere. Would an aspiring car mechanic, buy some tools and then trot round to his family and friends and offer to service their car, or replace the engine. No they would start by getting some training, probably an apprenticeship and then maybe one day having a place of their own. Then they advertise and target the people who want their cars fixed, possibly at this point their family and friends will start coming to them to have their cars fixed.

The point I am making is that when you start in Network Marketing you need training and lots of it, just like any other job and you need to target the people that want to buy your product. You also need to start where you are comfortable and build on that. If you go out and start with your family and you get lots of rejection, you instantly think you will get it from the rest of the world and before long you give in and become another statistic in failure for Network Marketing. Here are some of the tips I use

Research as much material as possible; there are many websites you can go onto which have some great ideas you can use without starting with your family. There is also loads of info you can gather from people who are successful in Network Marketing.Find what you are comfortable at doing and persist with it. Personally I drop leaflets and let people come to me. If someone calls me it means they are interested and I have just turned a cold market into a warm market.I concentrate on building the customers not the recruiting of distributors. As your business grows people will ask you how you make money and you can introduce them to the business at that point. How can you recruit a distributor when you only have one or two customers yourself? If your up line is successful, then talk to them. Ultimately your success helps them to earn more money, so they should be more than helpful. If not find someone else in the company who is and arrange to meet with them.Meet with other distributors, swap stories. Find out what works for them, it might work for you. At a recent meeting several of us got together and rented a stall at a local fete. We offered prizes for anyone filling in a form and some qualifying questions and from that collected a nice set of leads. And above all enjoy it. It doesnt normally cost a huge amount to get started with Network marketing, so if it fails it is not the end of the world. So you might as well enjoy it while you are doing it. The more you enjoy it the more successful you will be.
