Internet MLM - A Scam Or Legitimate Home Business Model?

By Kerri Tan

While there are many legitimate professionals in the MLM world, there are definitely those with lesser character who spend all their time pushing you down while they climb their way to the top of the ladder. It is important to recognize which of the people in MLM businesses are legitimate or not, because if you hang on every word they say, it will be nothing but detrimental to your success if those words are not helping you. So you must be very cautious as to when someone is really giving you advice or just merely leading you on. Also keep in mind that the same people who are giving you advice are also competitors, so giving away free advice would not be in their best interests.

False information may be posted on web sites. Materials that are posted or advertised on network marketing forums may not always be one hundred percent accurate, so be very careful when evaluating such information. So always be cautious of scams like this. A lot of people in forums can be expert scammers and con artists who do nothing but search forums for people to prey on.

The most common mistake that people fall for is a website that is very flashy. Having a website that is loud, full of garish animations or colors can work against you because you want people to go to your site and be happy with the information you’re telling and the products you’re selling; you want them to stick around on your site and but things or express interest in joining your network. People will not want to stick around your site if they are subjected by a visual onslaught of distracting colors or storming banners.

The general rule of thumb regarding internet scams is that if it seems too good to be true, there is no doubt that it probably is too good to be true. A simple example would be internet pop up ads or banners that claim you are a lucky winner of a million dollars. Nobody seriously believes that they won a million dollars because a pop up ad told them so. However, there are those who are fooled by these types of scams because no matter how ridiculous the claim, there is always someone who greatly desires to improve their financial position and will even go so far as to stretch their hope enough to encompass these fraudulent ads on the internet.

You need to be aware of scams like this in the network marketing business. You need to be informed in order to make sound judgments because you won’t want to be scammed but you also won’t want to miss out on any legitimate business opportunities that may come up.

Before putting any cash down on an MLM business opportunity, ask yourself the following questions to determine if it might be a scam:

Would you be able to make money just by selling the products to the customers? No. That’s a scam.
Have you been told that you can make money in a little amount of time or minimal effort? Yes? That’s a scam.
Are you required to pay a participation fee up front? Yes? That’s a scam.
